“Once On This Island” (1990)
On a small Caribbean island, peasants celebrate the life that their gods give them (ʻPrologueʻ/ʻWe Danceʻ) as they tell a frightened girl the legend of Ti Moune, a peasant who once fell in love with an aristocratic boy from the other side of the island. The goddess of the earth, Mama Euralie, helps Ti Moune on her journey to find the boy (ʻMama Will Provideʻ), who Ti Moune knows is part of her greater destiny (ʻWaiting for Life to Beginʻ). Gimme!,ʻ she realized that she wants her father to walk her down the aisle but does not know who he is.
